10-Day Final Project

I created an application that gives the individual the ability to explore things they never would have thought of doing.  With the application, it will pull a random restaurant or entertainment option based on their location and give the reviews, rating, location, and price rating of the random restaurant or entertainment.  This will not only get people to go outside and explore new things but will also help small businesses that are usually overlooked.  The application tracks how many times it has to do a search before the user selects an option which then determines how spontaneous the user is.  This rating can then be shared with other people almost like a competition as to who is more willing to try something new.  This application helps to create new memories and experiences as well as stimulate local economies.

The technologies and languages I used for this project were React.js, Django REST API, third-party APIs, as well as Bootstrap.  These were all used in order to present a pleasant and functional application that is easy to use and beneficial.

I am one of those people that can solve a problem when presented with the end goal.  I have a lifetime of experience that has given me knowledge in multiple fields which helps me to know what options are out there.  I have been called the MacGyver type of person, if you give me a stick of gum and something else, I can solve the problem.  I have solved issues with racecars, inventory, medical complications, and recently testing protocols and procedures.  There isn’t much I can’t do, and I will give it my best effort to complete it.

Passion For Programming

In the world today there is more technology than not.  This has driven me to contribute to the growth and prosperity of civilization, which is through making technology work better and more efficiently.  Too often there are flaws in systems because of the lack of detail in the software, I am looking to improve the level and quality of the software to better society.

Three Words About My Professional Qualities

I am going to take these from my time in the United States Air Force because I believe them and follow them

Integrity: I do not compromise myself or what I produce simply to get the job done, without integrity there is no honor or order which are required for a better society

Service before self:  I have spent my life putting the task at hand before myself, treating each task as if a life depended on it. Some of my achievements have been staying awake for over 48 hours in order to accomplish the task, as well as being tortured for information without releasing it because that is what the mission was.

Excellence in all I do:  I came up with a saying many years ago and still hold to it.  The saying was “perfection is unobtainable, but excellence is knowing that and still trying to reach perfection”.  This is the quality and determination that I go for in any task given.

Full-stack problem solver. If there is a unique problem or task that needs to be done, I can help solve the problem with an efficient solution that is beneficial to all parties involved.

Flexible: I am able to work on any platform and learn new technologies with efficiency and quality being high priorities.

Cutting edge: I enjoy creating and designing new technologies and solutions, anything that is leading in the field is enjoyable to me.  I have no issue working on proven systems but I excel at creating new more efficient ones.

A 10-day sprint that starts with each students’ idea. They are responsible for architecting this application, researching and learning any new languages or technologies to complete it, and build the final project. Since this is their crowning achievement during our course, instructors are very hands-off during the lifecycle of the development of their capstone.
