10-Day Final Project

My capstone project is an application called Recipe Finder. It is designed to help a user find recipes based on their search criteria entered. The search page shows the top five results in alphabetical order, and when you click on the title of the recipe it reveals the ingredients needed to make the recipe. After my wife passed away, cooking became a comfort zone for my children and me. We constantly had ingredients to make dinner but could never decide on just one main dish as kids can be very picky.

Registered users have the ability to save a recipe to their “Favorite Recipes” by title for later use and will also have access to the user-specific pantry. Within this pantry is the list of ingredients that the user has entered and saved to utilize for their own recipe search criteria. The user will also be alerted when their ingredients inside the pantry become expired, so they know when to replace the ingredients.

With the use of the Tasty API as my backend, users have access to hundreds of recipes that will allow their creative minds to wander. Using React.js for the frontend, allows the interactions on the webpage to become seamless and user-friendly.

Hire Me Because…

I am a dedicated, determined worker, and have been my entire working career. I take pride in being punctual for everything I do, and the willingness to continue pushing forward does not falter. I see myself this way because of my three little girls that are vibrant, loved, and full of joy. They drive me to become a better person every single day. I would love to bring this kind of mindset to a company that values not just good, hard-working, and determined employees but also values family as equals.

Passion For Programming

I have always been techy at heart, and I’ve found so much comfort in programming since I started the coding journey. I enjoy learning each day and what I mean by that is simple. I enjoy the challenge, the problem solving, and the experience of coding. It has strengthened my mental fortitude, with proper training and time, coding can become so much more. Ultimately, I want to set an example for my children that even when something seems impossible or there isn’t a solution in sight, you can continue to push yourself forward and seek out the answers.

Three Words About My Professional Qualities

Philomath: I have a passion for learning new things. I believe that receiving mentorship and working within a team setting is invaluable. I spend a lot of my time watching documentaries and watching educational content so I can completely grasp the knowledge I am taking in.

Humble: I know that at points I am going to get things wrong. Learning from one’s mistakes is what defines each one of us. I enjoy having the back and forth with people to discuss what may have gone wrong and how to fix them. It’s one of the most endearing qualities of coding I enjoy the most

Determined: Using this word has multiple meanings for me as an individual. Determination means strength. Having the strength to pick yourself up and keep pushing past problems to reach the end goal. Determination means having an unrelenting drive to be better every day regardless of what the world puts you through. It means never allowing myself to give up on something that I’ve fought hard for. I will always carry determination within me no matter what happens.

Three Words That Describe The Best Role For Me

Meaningful: I want my work to make a difference in someone’s life. I want to be able to develop products that better the lives of anyone who decides to use them.

Growth: I would like to be in a position that offers the ability to grow and expand my skillset. With the right mentors and co-workers, we will succeed together.

Family-Oriented: It is the most important to me that family comes first. I have three beautiful daughters and their future ahead of them is bright. I would like to be able to provide them with everything they could ever need to be successful in life. It’s important they learn by example and working for a company that values family will allow me to do that.

A 10-day sprint that starts with each students’ idea. They are responsible for architecting this application, researching and learning any new languages or technologies to complete it, and build the final project. Since this is their crowning achievement during our course, instructors are very hands-off during the lifecycle of the development of their capstone.
